Eating Real

In our efforts to eat more REAL foods, RD and I are purchasing for each other the KitchenAid ice cream attachment for our birthday presents come June. (Our bdays are only 9 days apart.)

With this baby, you can whip up 2 qt. of ice cream or frozen custard in like 15-20 minutes! (Well, minus prep time.) We're already scouring the internet for yummy recipes. If you have any fool-proof ice cream/frozen custard recipes you'd like to share, we are all ears!

We usually purchase Schwan's ice cream. But after looking at the ingredients list we realized there is a LOT of fake stuff in there!!!

And like I said earlier, we'd rather eat rich and real than to eat the alternative.

aw wow! My mother-in-law makes the most AMAZING homemade pineapple ice cream! It is just heavenly! I'll ask her for the recipe!

Here is my favorite: Chocolate Sorbet (2 pints)

2 cups sugar
1 1/3 cup cocoa powder

combine in heavy 4 qt pan. gradually add in:

3 cups water

bring to simmer on medium heat, stirring until sugar dissolves. Increase to boiling - boil 1-2 min until a dark glossy brown.

pour into bowl, stir in:

2 tsp vanilla and
4 Tbsp Kahula (optional - but good!)

Cover and chill until very cold - freeze in ice cream maker 25 min. transfer to freezer container and freeze 2-4 hours before serving.

Soooo good for an "I need CHOCOLATE" mood.
