Prayer Request

RD's car that he uses solely for business purposes is on its deathbed. :-( It's a '91 Buick Century and has far outlived its normal lifespan. Within the past two weeks, it's required two major repairs. The first one we paid for... the second one is making us think about maybe purchasing another used vehicle. It's been absolutely wonderful not having a car payment for the past couple of years, so it'd be nice to continue that pattern. But... we also don't want to dump money into something that might die again in a couple weeks/months. Please pray along with us about this situation, that God would make it abundantly clear to us what we should do. Pray that if it's God's will that we purchase another used vehicle that He would lead us to the right one. Pray that the kids and I would be patient as RD will be needing our van for his business, and so, will be without a vehicle for awhile. We'll let you know how things work out. Thanks for your prayers.

This week's project

This week, we are transferring all our winter clothes:

for our summer clothes:

It a tedious task but it is also somewhat fun to reorganize and declutter.

Baby #4 couldn't have decided to come at a better time. The clothing transfer will be done (which is decent sized project), our garden will be tilled and planted, birthday's will be over with for a while (we have a LOT of May and June birthday's in our family), and the two weddings that the kids and RD are in will be over. Nothing much else coming this summer but two birthdays and Independence Day. Next big thing ahead is Arianna starting kindergarten in the fall.
We have so much to be thankful for.

I know labor and delivery is close....

we have to order my birth kit this week!

We still have quite a bit of leftover supplies from Cassandra's homebirth, so we basically just need to reorder what we used up last time. In this kit comes all sorts of medical/hospital/herbal supplies... basically, everything you need to have a baby! We get ours from
I can't believe this baby's birth is coming up so soon. Only 53 more days to go!!! Yea!!!

Endurance Training

"2 Consider it all joy, my brethren, when you encounter various trials, 3 knowing that the testing of your faith produces endurance. 4 And let endurance have its perfect result, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing. 5 But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all men generously and without reproach, and it will be given him. 6 But let him ask in faith without any doubting, for the one who doubts is like the surface of the sea drive and tossed by the wind. 7 For let not that man expect that he will receive anything from the Lord, 8 being a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways... 12 Blessed is a man who perseveres under trial; for once he has been approved, he will receive the crown of life, which the Lord has promised to those who love Him."
-James 1:2-8, 12

Oh, how I am clinging to these verses today. I'm not exactly sure why, but we are having a "difficult day" at our house. Mommy's short-fused and easily angered, the children are misbehaving and being disrespectful, nothing seems to be going as planned... sigh. Perhaps it's hormones. Perhaps it's Satan's influence and spiritual warfare. Whatever it is, I am trying with all that's within me to "abide in Christ" and to have His word abide in me. For apart from God, I bear no fruit and can accomplish nothing. (See John 15:1-11)

Father, I submit my home and family to You today. You understand my struggles and my trials. You also know what I can bear. Please protect my family, home, and I from Satan. May I cling to You and Your word. Be my strength. Help me to endure. Amen.

Kindergarten Screening

This Friday morning, Arianna is going in for Kindergarten Screening at the area elementary school. RD and I have felt led by God for some time now to homeschool and are diligently preparing for that endeavor this fall. But just to see where she's at (strengths & weaknesses), we decided to go ahead with the screening. Wow. Can't believe it's already time to think about schooling! Let you know how she does!

Faux Foods

Should we eat processed foods or whole foods? You be the judge. (Thanks for this article, Cyndi!)

Brownies (that taste like a box mix)

My sister found this recipe a while back and RD and I finally got around to making it. I must say, we are impressed. We've had yet to find a recipe even close to tasting like a box mix... but this one does come pretty close.

Brownies (that taste like a box mix)
*Beat together the following:
1 cup sugar
2 eggs
1/2 tsp. vanilla

*Add and mix well:
1/2 cup melted butter (1 stick)

*Combine, add to batter, and mix well:
1/2 cup flour
1/3 cup cocoa
1/4 tsp. baking powder
1/4 tsp. salt

*Optional: top with chocolate chips

Bake at 350F for 25-30 min. in 8 in. greased pan
Bake for 15-20 min. in 9 in. pan

31 weeks and counting!!!

Our baby is a little under 4 lbs. and is approximately 17 inches long.

A change of pace...

As of this past Monday (4/21), I am now my husband's secretary/administrative assistant!

Almost 6 years ago, my husband started his own computer repair/support business, which is run out of the house. God has blessed the work of his hands mightily! So much, in fact, that RD is now in much need of administrative help (filing, paperwork, taxes, etc.). He's in that in-between stage of owning one's own business- where business is good, but one cannot yet afford to hire on an employee.

After much prayer and option weighing, we saw God open a door for me to work one day a week for RD. We carefully and prayerfully selected a wonderful and dear Christian friend of ours to watch our children for the day. (Thanks, Rebekah!)

We really see this as a blessing from God: 1) RD's business can now further grow/thrive and 2) I am more fully living out my role as RD's helper-completer. Another good aspect is that since I will be working out of the home, I am right there during the day so if Rebekah/kids need me or there is an emergency, I can attend to it. Also, since it's only one day a week, my mothering and homekeeping responsibilities will not be neglected.

I started this Monday and we can already see God's blessing upon RD's business. It will be neat to see what happens!

Tummy sleeve

One of my dear friends got me one of these from Motherhood Maternity:
It's called a tummy sleeve. You can view it here on Motherhood's website. Basically, it's a stretchy tube top sort of thing that you wear over your belly and it "holds everything in" during pregnancy. I love it and I highly recommend it for any expectant mother. It can also be worn post-partum to give you a little extra support until you regain muscle tone. I also like it because as my belly grows, eventually my shirts start to "tent out" and my belly is laid bare to the elements. This sleeve keeps me covered. It also gives that "layered" look with your clothing which is fashionable nowadays. If you've never tried one, you ought to. I love it!

Whoa momma!

Here's me at 29 weeks. I'm all belly!

Vaccination Information

For those of you who choose not to immunize (or do selective immunizations), RD and I would be very interested in hearing from you about this topic (personal convictions, favorite informational websites/books, etc.). As the birth of baby #4 approaches, we've been increasingly more interested in vaccinations... are they safe? are they necessary? are the ingredients dangerous? etc. Lately we've been hearing about all sorts of stuff like aborted fetal tissues being used as ingredients, high levels of mercury, autism, etc. We would like some solid information about this topic so we can make informed decisions regarding the health of our children.

M & M cookies

Another wonderful recipe from!

M & M Cookies
1 cup packed brown sugar
1/2 cup white sugar
1 cup butter (softened)
2 eggs
1-1/2 tsp. vanilla extract
2-1/2 cups all purpose flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt
1-1/2 cups M & M's

In a large bowl, mix sugars, eggs, butter, and vanilla thoroughly. Add flour, salt, and baking soda to creamed mixture. Blend well. Add 3/4 cup of M & M candies.

Drop dough by teaspoonsful onto cookie sheet. Slightly push a few candies on top of each dough ball with remaining candies.

Bake at 350 F for 8-10 min.s.

RD's been hankering for M & M cookies and so the kids and I surprised him by making these for him this morning. The kids had a blast making these, sampling the dough and M & M's, squishing the candies into the tops of the cookies, and of course, eating their final creation. We'll definitely make this recipe again!

The dough

Kids squishing the M & M's into the tops.
I think more made it into their mouths than onto the cookies. :-)

All done!!!
We love you, daddy!

Perfect for spring!
