My Hooter Hider

Back in February '08, I talked about nursing covers and how I wanted to order a Hooter Hider (lol) because they had the most darling patterns to choose from. Well a dear lady from church made one for me! All I had to do was supply her with material! For some reason my pic turned out fuzzy, but here's what it looks like:

It is soooooooo nice to nurse with (as Edmund can't play a round of peek-a-boo and so lovingly pull down the cover to say hi). Around the neckline is boning so I can easily see down inside. It's reversible. There's also a modest amount of material from side-to-side for further privacy. It's great! I highly recommend these covers for every nursing mom (or mom-2-be).

Kid Project #6

Nut Cups

Arianna ground up the walnuts
Benjamin helped make the pastry
He was really good at using the tamp


Nut Cups
(servings: 36)
1 cup flour
3 oz. softened cream cheese
1 stick softened butter
1 cup chopped walnuts
1 cup brown sugar
1 tsp vanilla
1 egg
1 tsp. softened butter

Mix thoroughly. Make 1/2" balls. Press into ungreased mini cupcake pans using a floured tamp.
Mix ingredients together. Fill cups with 1/2 tsp. of filling. Do not overfill. (Note: Filling is enough for 2 batches.)
Bake: at 375F for approximately 20 minutes. Sprinkle with powdered sugar. Cool.

This past week, Edmund's had a sinus cold and has not been sleeping so well as he cannot constructively breathe through his nose. So needless to say, this momma hasn't had the best of sleep... and that's an understatement. It got to the point this week that I got so exhausted and sleep-deprived that I couldn't sleep. Tylenol PM worked wonders one night, but that drug-induced, droopy, cotton-head feeling that came the next morning makes me leery to rush in and take it again any time soon. So anyways, I was able to get in some exercise this week, but not near as much as I wanted to accomplish. I just keep telling myself that this is just a season... I'll do what I can. But here's what I did get done:

Thurs. 9/25: 3 mi. video
Fri. 9/26: 205 various sit-ups; 50 tricep/50 bicep (w/ 5 lbs.)

Mr. Edmund's 3 months old!!!

Where on earth does the time go?! I cannot believe it's been 3 months since Edmund came into our lives. But as of (Wednesday) 9/24, he's that old. *sigh* So anyways... here's some pics of our "little" 13 lb. chunker.

He absolutely LOVES this rattle/chew-toy bear. He cuddles with it and chews on it all the time.


Let's see... developmental milestones:
1- he can roll to his side
2- he has incredible head control
3- laughs out loud
4- babbles and tries to talk
5- is starting to learn how to use his hands

Fun facts about Edmund:
1- he LOVES to stretch, esp. hands-over-the-head
2- he terribly ticklish (neck, back, and armpits)
3- just like his mom, his feet are his thermostat
4- he loves being outside
5- he prefers the Baby Bjorn over the sling (probably because he's always disliked being swaddled)
6- he simply adores Arianna; his face lights up every time he sees her (I'm sure he loves Benjamin and Cassandra, too; they just jostle him a bit past his comfort level)
7- he hates his car seat... which means he doesn't travel well
8- he will not take a pacifier
9- he burps up a lot after every meal (so watch out)
10- he had a cold now and we jokingly call him our (Darth) "Vader Baby"


RD and I have a neat opportunity tomorrow morning. We've been invited to speak at a 1 hr. Q & A session for our midwife's weekend-long birthing class for newbies. Should be fun!

I weighed myself to day... and was surprised to see that I LOST 3 LBS! I was just so shocked since I hadn't been exercising very well this past week. Yea! Only 11 more pounds to go! (That's just to get back to my pre-pregnancy weight. If I lose more, hoorah! But I'd be perfectly happy with my pre-preggers.)

I hate to admit this, but I didn't do very well this week at all. :-( I was able to get some exercise in but not near as much as I would like. The problem I run into is that if I don't get my exercise done in the morning before the children wake up, it's a rare opportunity indeed if I'm able to get it done during the daytime hours. So anyways, here's what I did get accomplished this week:

Thurs. 9/18: 150 various sit-ups; Leslie Sansone's 3 mi. Walk Away the Pounds video
Sun. 9/21: 240 various sit-ups; 50 tricep/50 bicep/50 arm raises (5 lbs.)

In regard to portion sizing, I am still staying on track! Yea! Praise God I no longer feel as though I am starving all the time! I could probably stand to cut back even more, but for now, I'm starting off by intentionally eating less than RD during meal times. Still eating on a lunch plate, no seconds, cutting back on sweets, and increasing my liquid intake.

Exercise Challenge

It's Monday check-in! Edmund started sleeping better toward the end of the week so I was able to get some much needed rest... and was able to slip in some exercise. So, here's what I've been up to this past week:

Tues. 9/9: 160 various sit-ups; 560 various leg lifts; arms: 50 tricep/40 bicep (w/ 5 lbs.)
Fri. 9/12: 180 various sit-ups; 620 various leg lifts; arms: 50 tricep/50 bicep (w/ 5 lbs.); 50 lateral raises (w/ stretchy band); 50 arm raises (w/ 3 lbs.)
Sat. 9/13: 40 min.s rollerblading
Sun. 9/14: 220 various sit-ups; 770 various leg-lifts; arms: 50 tricep/50 bicep (w/ 5 lbs.); 50 lateral raises (w/ stretchy band); 50 arm raises (w/ 3 lbs.)

This next week I hope to include more cardio.

French Breakfast Puffs

On my Aug. 15th post, I shared the recipe and pics for our French Breakfast Puffs. Well, today we made them again and I wanted to share how we tweaked the recipe.

First of all, my children renamed them: French Fluffies. (I can't stop laughing!)
Second of all, for a family our size, we ended up needing to triple the recipe.
Thirdly, rather than using paper muffin cups, we sprayed our muffins tins with PAM. Worked great! They just slid right out.
Fourthly, we cut out the "topping". We figured there was enough butter, sugar, and spice IN the "fluffy" that we didn't need to add more. They tasted just as yummy.

These are just the right size, too, for little hands.

As an FYI, the batter will be rather thin. DO NOT add more flour or else they lose their "fluff".

Just to be honest, I am struggling to get my exercise in this week. I've worked out some but not everyday as I planned. Mr. Edmund hasn't been sleeping all that well these past couple nights and so this momma's tired. I'm finding it hard to not only find the time but also the energy to exercise. I am so excited, though, about Friday night. RD's going on "baby duty" and I'm going to leave him a couple bottles of milk so I can get a full night's sleep. He's the greatest!

Doing good on portion control, though! Day 4 has been even easier!

Day 3...

Since I've joined the Mom's of Many Exercise Challenge, I've also been convicted about my portion sizes as well. For the past 3 days I've drastically cut back on the amount I normally eat. One lunch-sized plate, no seconds, and I make sure and eat less than my husband. I'm embarrassed to admit this, but I can (and usually do) eat as much as my husband does (who's at least 70+ pounds heavier than I am). That really shouldn't be. So... ok, the first 2 days I felt like I was starving all the time. I drank a lot of water and Dt. Coke. But finally today, things are leveling out as I'm guessing my stomach is shrinking. Yea! I've got 14 lbs. to lose in order to get back to my pre-pregnancy weight. Keep everyone posted on progress. Please keep me accountable. And Carmine, thanks so much for your amazing quote. I think on it often: "A person who wants something will find a way. A person who doesn't will find an excuse."

Kid Project #5

Tomorrow at AWANA it's Crazy Hat Day. I've been racking my brain these past few days as to what I could do cheaply for my three kids to celebrate. As I was pawing around in our storage room, I happened to see this huge pile of gift wrapping items. "Sheesh... I need to declutter that mess...", I thought to myself. Wait a minute! I could use some of it to make my crazy hats!!! So here is what we came up with. I thought it fitting, seeing as how children are "gifts" and blessings from the Lord.

The materials:

I cut the bottoms out and stuffed/taped some tissue paper on the tops.
